JUDE TREDER-WOLFF QUOTES IN WOMEN’S DAY
from the article entitled The New Face of Stress by Sue Ellin Browder
"People who handle tough times well approach life as students. Rather than complaining, blaming others or behaving like victims, they ask, "what can I learn from this?" 'In one study, eighty-two percent of HIV positive women said they had learned a lot from their illness' reports Treder-Wolff. 'Some said they now appreciate time as being more precious. Others became more sensitive to beauty.' Even the greatest adversity can be a springboard to new psychological and spiritual insights. .. ...Most of us will never be one of those extraordinary souls who dash into burning buildings or leap into churning rapid to save a child's life. But we can model ourselves after. 'Strengths that come from extraordinary struggle bring out what's best in us.' says Treder-Wolff... ...Its Ok to be afraid. We're all scared at times. It's what we do with fear that determines whether we will triumph. 'When you're most afraid, you should take that fear and pour it into cultivating a skill or talent you've never developed because you were scared to do it,' Treder-Wolff recommends. 'Many of my client s have done this, and it redirects those worries beyond your control into something that will have a positive outcome....'You're scared anyway. So why not channel all that energy into something else you're afraid of that you can control?' Treder-Wolff reasons. 'At least you'll have something to show for it.' You'll have also have spun your fear into courage. "
