The Power of Story-Telling In Relationships and Business
Stories matter because they explain why things are the way they are - and express the way we think about the events and people in our life that shaped our perspective. Some stories turn on the most mundane decision, others on global events beyond our control. It's the way we tell the story that expresses so much about us and what we view as important. Stories matter too because we base all sorts of decisions on the ones we hear. Anyone who sells us a car, a mortgage, a Congressman or an idea has connected us to some kind of narrative that has as much meaning to us as the way we remember our first love, best holiday memory, or worst birthday ever.
There are specific skills that make true stories compelling to a listener and are extremely useful in every area of life, from making a memorable toast or tribute that convey important moments in a family's history to making a career-building presentation at work. The craft of effective storytelling expands our ability to share our experience, contribute our take on life, and gain an expanded self-confidence that helps us shine in both personal and professional situations.
This workshop will explore different story-telling styles, practical tips for transforming everyday events into entertaining and/or enlightening stories, and opportunities to practice the skills presented. It will conclude with a performance of participants' stories in a theater venue.
